Unpacking Intersections: Interrogating the Status Quo Towards a Vision for a Progressive BMOC Field
Intersectionality is a term that is applied most often to individual identities, as pertaining to race, gender, and all the ways we identify ourselves and to one another. However, it can also be applied to how we see contemporary progressive movements. The labor movement, LGBTQ movement, movement for Black lives, immigration movements, and others… each movement is complex, have blind spots, have tactical victories and failures, and although they differ, much of their agendas are similarly aligned. During this session we engage a diverse group of experts in a conversation to discuss what a progressive movement that names improving life outcomes for boys and men of color looks like. How do progressive movements intersect in an aligned and powerful way? How do we advance a body of work that names boys and men of color that is inclusive, progressive and rooted in stronger families and communities?
