Financial Security for Boys and Men of Color: How Criminal Justice and Other Policies Prevent Men of Color from Building Savings and What We Can Do About Them
Across the nation, community members, advocates, and government leaders are tackling the conditions that lead to poor life outcomes for BMOC. While focusing on these conditions is critical, it is not sufficient. We must also begin to discuss and put in place programs, practices, and policies that help will help BMOC save and invest for their futures, build strong families, and send their kids to college. This session will examine the systemic barriers to financial security, including exorbitant fines and fees that the court system often levies on BMOC. A panel of experts will also explore proven asset-building strategies for low-income communities that could be applied to the challenges facing boys and men of color.
